Guide to Atlanta: Festivals & Events
Celebrating Atlanta!
Georgia is nicknamed the Peach State, so it is only appropriate for the year to begin with the Peach Bowl Parade and the annual Peach Bowl football game in the state capital of Atlanta.
Atlanta Dogwood Festival
Before the dog days of summer set in, get outside to the Atlanta Dogwood Festival. For one April weekend, artists converge on Piedmont Park for a world-class arts festival, and a professionally-judged artisan competition. And companion canine fans won't want to miss the U.S. Disc Dog Southern Nationals, where you can see some of the leading Frisbee dogs in the South compete for top honors.
Atlanta Jazz Festival
Over Memorial Day weekend the city hosts the free Atlanta Jazz Festival, which brings internationally renowned artists to venues throughout the city. 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of this festival.
Renaissance Atlanta
For those who are more historically inclined, the Georgia Renaissance festival runs from April through June. Watch a jousting match and meet costumed characters during this fun-filled affair for the whole family.
Film-Fest in Georgia
The summer begins with the Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival, which brings Oscar-winners and movie classics to the historic Fox Theater.
Festival of Trees
During the holiday season, don't miss the Festival of Trees, where you can bid on trees and gingerbread houses decorated by local designers.
Extra Entertainment Events
If you're a film buff, check out the free movie screenings of Screen on the Green, or take in a concert in the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
