Guide to Dallas: Festivals & Events
The Dallas Metro area is well-known for a wide variety of annual events and festivals. From corn dogs to fine wine, you’re bound to fit a cultural event that suits your tastes.
The Texas State Fair Meets… Opera?
Every year Dallas' Fair Park is home to the State Fair of Texas. As befitting the largest state in the continental U.S., its state fair is the largest in the country. However, carnival rides, corn dogs, and cows aren't the only entertainment on offer in Fair Park--the Dallas Opera presents several performances every winter and spring, and puts on annual shows during the State Fair. During the annual Dance for the Planet festival you might catch a performance by the Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico, which is one of the oldest dance troupes in Dallas.
Arts, Music and Culture in Dallas
The festivals and annual events of Dallas and its metro area reflect the area's commitment to the arts and cultural diversity. The Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival is held every year in late spring in Richardson, Texas, just north of Dallas. The event lasts three days and embodies the eclectic celebration of the arts. Featuring bands like Fastball, Better Than Ezra--even Morris Day and The Time--this event should not be missed by live music lovers.
Farmers Market in Dallas is also an excellent source for seasonal festivities, and every year one of the biggest wine festivals in the Southwest--Grapefest--is held just outside Dallas in aptly named Grapevine. Dallas also hosts an annual Shakespeare Festival, and for the kids there are Camp Shakespeare and Festival Workshops.
