Get Out, Enjoy the View

Near the heart of downtown Dallas, those who enjoy the outdoors but want to avoid a long drive can enjoy the scenery of White Rock Lake, known as "the jewel of Dallas." In nearby Glen Rose the Brazos River provides more water recreation. Cedar Hill State Park, about ten miles southwest of Dallas, offers hiking, camping, and bird-watching on over 800 acres nature preserve.

Lake Texoma not only supplies Dallas Fort Worth residents with an excellent getaway for fishing and water sports, but also has some of the best hiking in North Texas. Southeast of the Dallas metro area, residents can also enjoy a serious hike in the Davy Crockett National Forest, or take a trail-walk in the Big Thicket National Preserve--and include their dog too. For bicyclists, the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex not only offers excellent mountain bike riding trails, but with its rolling hills and long, empty stretches of highway, it's a great place for road biking.
