Art and Culture in Dallas
Bustling downtown Dallas is home not only to a thriving economy but also some of the best examples of contemporary architecture in the country. The Dallas Arts District is home to several world-class museums, including The Nasher Sculpture Center, The Dallas Museum of Art, and the Crow Collection of Asian Art.
Dallas is also known for its jazz, theater, and the Dallas Black Dance Theater. The Dallas metro area boasts more than 50 professional and community theater companies and over 175 museums. Music lovers can find camaraderie with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and its society, the Dallas Opera and its fans, or any of a number of other musical organizations.
Things to Do and See
Dallas' parks and recreation make it an excellent destination for both tourists and adventurous students. The Dallas Metroplex is home to several major sports teams, and those who like to golf can challenge nearly 150 private and public courses in the greater Dallas metro area. Six Flags Over Texas, located outside the city proper in Arlington, offers thrill-seekers over 200 acres of rides, shows, and games.

The Dallas metro area is home to over 400 public parks and more than 60 lakes and reservoirs, together covering about 550,000 acres. The Dallas Zoo houses more than 2,000 animals, including several endangered species, and features a wildlife preserve showcasing the animals of Africa. For fans of horticulture, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens provides 66 acres of gardens and the country's largest display of azaleas.
