Every year the Detroit metro area hosts some of the most acclaimed fine and performing arts events in the country. Music aficionados will gravitate to the International Jazz Festival, and this year the event showcases the award-winning talents of Regina Carter and the legendary Herbie Hancock. The annual Detroit Festival of the Arts not only features performances from acclaimed musicians, but also celebrates the visual arts, theater, and includes plenty of activities for the kids.

The Detroit Film Center, which offers educational programs for budding filmmakers, also presents seasonal screenings of independently produced movies and shorts. Movie buffs will enjoy the historic Redford Theatre, which opened in 1928 and is a regular showcase for timeless films starring all-time favorites, including John Wayne and Audrey Hepburn.
