Guide to Los Angeles: Festivals & Events

On the Move in LA

If to you the good life means having a full calendar of things to do and places to see then LA is your heaven. The city's Mediterranean climate encourages year-round festivities and events across the region. The city of Los Angeles is nearly 230 years old, and every year in September it throws a world-famous birthday party in the downtown Plaza. September is also the month in which the LA County Fair settles in Pomona for two weeks every fall.

Cultural Festivals Define Los Angeles

The cultural mix of the Los Angeles region makes for equal diversity in its festivals. Chinatown celebrates Chinese New Year every February with the Golden Dragon Parade and firecrackers. Mexican Independence Day is celebrated with a three-day fiesta each fall. Other popular Mexican events include Cinco de Mayo and Dia de Los Muertes, or "Day of the Dead".

Playboy, Parades and More…

Two of the most widely known events in LA every year are the Academy Awards and the Rose Parade, which has been held every New Year's Day in Pasadena for over one hundred years. Every summer brings the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, and in July Independence Day is celebrated across the city with parties, fireworks, and concerts.

Whether it's a parade of lights down Disneyland's Main Street or the annual Rose Bowl game in the city of Pasadena, the LA metro area provides non-stop action. Regardless of the season, there's a party going on in Los Angeles with events to bring visitors from across the state, the country, and the world.
