Mission Statement

The Corcoran College of Art and Design is dedicated to providing its students with an excellent education in the visual arts and to promoting the value of the visual arts to the metropolitan community. Through degree programs, continuing education, and community outreach, the College prepares students to become productive artists and designers. In pursuit of its philosophy the College is inextricably linked to the Corcoran Museum of Art. This symbiotic partnership between the College and Museum benefits both institutions by presenting unique educational opportunities and creating a vibrant community of artists, scholars, designers, museum professionals, and educators. As one of the few museum-school partnerships in the country, and the only accredited art college in the District of Columbia, the Corcoran plays a distinct role in the artistic life of the nation's capital.
