From the shores of Lake Michigan and Chicago (the City of Big Shoulders) in the north, to the agricultural plains of the Mississippi River in the south, Illinois is devoted to providing high quality education at its many colleges and universities. Evanston, home to Northwestern University--often known as the Ivy League school of the Midwest--is located just north of Chicago's renowned blues clubs, Rush Street nightlife, fine dining, museums, and professional sports teams.

The main campus of the University of Illinois is located in Champaign-Urbana, about two hours south of Chicago in a bustling college town. A second campus of the University of Illinois lies in the heart of Chicago. Downstate Carbondale is home to Southern Illinois University, which also has a college campus in Edwardsville.
