As Kentucky's largest city, Louisville always has something to offer students and residents alike. Though it has a population of over 500,000, Louisville has still been cited as one of the safest cities in the nation by research company Morgan Quitno. Students of Louisville colleges and universities enjoy the social opportunities in the City of Parks, and spend weekends unwinding at the bars and clubs on Fourth Street.

Sports fans in Louisville can root for one of the many athletic teams at the University of Louisville, which had an enrollment of over 21,000 in 2005, making it the largest of all Louisville colleges and universities. Bellarmine University is another popular choice among Louisville colleges and universities. The Roman Catholic liberal arts university is the largest non-profit private university in Kentucky.
