Mission Statement

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) is a diverse community, committed to the education of significant working artists through an interdisciplinary curriculum to support the development of individual vision. Ten goals of the SMFA Are: to give shape to the leading edge in contemporary art by acting as the labratory and innovative arm of the Museum of Fine Arts as a fully engaged and interactive partner; to be governed by a board that is committed to the mission and to extending the SMFA's reach nationally and internationally; to be financially stable with resources available to support students, faculty and staff; to have a faculty of significant working artists - both regular and visiting; to have diversity (students, faculty and staff); to be regarded internationally as the preeminent art school; to offer a broad curriculum that continually evolves to enable/promote/stimulate the development of new directions in art; to be engaged with alumni and other artists - extending the SMFA community; and to be viewed externally as a resource for discuorse about the arts, present and future.
