Mission Statement

Empire State College is a comprehensive, public, statewide distributed university for lifelong learning within the State University of New York system that offers studies leading to associate, bachelor's and master's degrees, and other study opportunities. The college's programs ensure educational excellence through a unique combination of individual student planning and advisement supported by networked educational resources, permitting its students, primarily adults, flexibility in time, place, pace and content of study. Central to the fulfillment of the mission are educational values rooted in learning theory: 1) the centrality of each student; 2) mentoring as a core teaching and learning strategy; 3) the educational creditability of a student's prior experiential, college-level learning; and 4) the efficient and collaborative use of learning resources.
