Syracuse Colleges and Universities

Syracuse is the locus of central New York's cultural, economic, and educational life. A transportation hub and convention center, Syracuse is a cosmopolitan city known as the "Crossroads of New York State." Syracuse's diverse selection of colleges and universities attract students from far and wide, most of whom congregate in the city's growing University Hill district. Besides world-class educational opportunities, the concentration of Syracuse colleges and universities produces a lively cultural scene and nightlife.

"The Hill" is home to many Syracuse colleges and universities. Syracuse University, a private university, is the city's preeminent research institution and a major local employer. Syracuse is also home to two state-supported public schools, the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and the SUNY Upstate Medical University.
