Mission Statement

Central State University shall in its own unique way, provide for equal to higher education for all applicants regardless of race, creed, sex, or physical limitation. To that end, Central State University carries out the following mission: 1. To foster academic excellence through teaching, researches, and service. 2. To provide educational opportunities designed to prepare graduates with a background in Liberal Arts who will be competitive in a highly technologically advanced society and for the decades ahead. 3. As a historical black institution, and now, a predominantly African-American institution, the university will continue to provide equal educational opportunities to all qualified applicants with special emphasis on the following: a. Programs in scientific and technological fields where minorities have traditionally been under-represented and in which there is excellent future growth potential. b. Transmitting and preserving the heritage of African-American culture. 4. To instill in students, regardless of race or ethnic background, an aspiration to support programs for those students who enter the university with academic deficiencies, and by providing a nurturing environment which promotes academic excellence in the pursuit of knowledge which will be relevant in the 21st Century and beyond.
