Evangelical Lutheran Church Colleges and Universities

The modern Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded over twenty years ago, but its roots go back much further.

In 1988, three branches of the Lutheran faith united to form the Evangelical Lutheran Church. However, the Lutheran faith originally came to America in the mid-17th century. Today, the Church has grown to comprise 4.8 million members and nearly 10,500 congregations.

Lutheran Colleges and Universities

This community includes the various Lutheran colleges and universities found throughout the United States, from New York to California. In all, there are 28 Evangelical Lutheran universities and colleges across the country.

These Evangelical institutions offer an important choice for young Lutherans contemplating higher education. Indeed, education is an important part of the Lutheran tradition, as Martin Luther himself once said "what do we older folks live for if not for the care of the young, to teach and train them?"
